Gunderson Marine & Iron (GM&I) has named Michael Satanek Senior Vice President of Engineering, adding more than 15 years of maritime engineering, naval architecture, shipyard and vessel operations experience to the company's senior leadership team.

Satanek will lead Gunderson's engineering division, supporting the company's growing portfolio of marine construction and complex fabrication projects while strengthening the connection between engineering, production and project execution.

"He understands that successful engineering doesn't end at the drawing table, it has to translate to the production floor and ultimately deliver for the customer. His experience leading teams and executing complex marine projects will be an important asset for Gunderson."

Satanek joins Gunderson from Mainstay Maritime where he most recently served as Vice President of Engineering, overseeing fleet planning, technical programs, regulatory compliance and shipyard coordination.

He brings deep experience in vessel maintenance, drydockings, structural renewals and casualty response, including 11.5 years with American Steamship Company managing major maintenance and repair programs and developing improvements to vessel performance, efficiency and cargo capacity.

Satanek earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan College of Engineering. He is a longtime member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and has served on the ABS Great Lakes Technical Committee since 2016.
